East View Press, as the publisher of the academic journal Social Sciences, is guided by the generally accepted standards of editorial and publishing ethics, peer review and authorship of scientific publications that are enshrined in the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
In turn, we operate on the premise that the scholars and editors who produce the Russian journal articles from which the contents of Social Sciences are translated also follow the standards of the above document. Issues of particular relevance include the authenticity of authorship (non-plagiarism) and the confidentiality of the peer review process.
East View Press also assumes ethical obligations that pertain specifically to the translation of academic texts. First and foremost, we work to the best of our ability to ensure that the ideas, viewpoints and arguments expressed by the original author(s) are conveyed as clearly and accurately as possible in English. We do not assume responsibility for the accuracy of facts or sources, but we regularly verify the wording of quotations from English-language sources. Should we discover any inaccuracies or discrepancies in such quotations or cited publication data, our editors undertake to correct or annotate them as we see fit.
Overall, East View Press recognizes the important role played by publishers to support the substantial efforts made by journal editors, and the often unsung volunteer work undertaken by peer reviewers, in maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. The publisher has a supporting, investing and nurturing role in the scholarly communication process, but is also ultimately responsible for ensuring that best practice is followed in its publications.
