During this investigation, the authors visited some villagers in Zhangbi Village and learned that the heads of the Buddha and Bodhisattva from the lower niche to the west on the boulder were stolen, and their whereabouts are unknown. A discussion of the time of the carving, style and motifs of the Dafoshan cliff sculptures, and of the southward migration of the Yungang style indicated by the sculptures, follows.
